Information in English

The Imsum Dike Marathon is a sporting event that allows runners to complete and document a marathon race.

Race director: Jan Kuhlmann, Imsum

Start time: Different for each marathon

Finish time: Six hours after start (or later if the organizer is still present)

Start/Finish: Parking lot at the Ochsenturm in Imsum (Geestland). Changing rooms, showers and toilets are not available.

Course: According to GPS measurement, the circuit is 4460 meters long and runs on asphalt paths in front of and behind the dike. First it goes in front of the dike in the direction of Wremen. In Schottwarden it goes behind the dike back to the tower. In each lap the dike has to be crossed twice. For a marathon 10 laps have to be run. This adds up to 160 meters of elevation gain through the dike. The organizer can change the running direction before the race, taking into account the wind direction.

Ultramarathon: Those who want to run an ultramarathon can add an additional distance of 600 meters to the tenth lap. Furthermore, it is possible to run as many additional laps as desired within six hours.

Inframarathon: If you want to run less than the marathon distance, please indicate this when registering. But also those who are registered for the marathon or the ultramarathon can shorten the distance during the race. A shortening is to be communicated to the race director afterwards with the achieved time.

Timekeeping: Each athlete takes his own time and informs the rece director after the run. A suitable timing device (e.g. sports watch, stopwatch, cell phone) is therefore a prerequisite for participation.

Starting fee: 0 Euro, no donation requested

Catering: Each athlete provides his own catering. You will pass the parking lot after each lap, so you can leave food in your car. There is no catering offered by the organizer and no kiosk or store.

Number of participants: 3 to 15 runners. If there are less than 3 pre-registrations for the marathon or ultramarathon, the race will not take place. Minimum age is 18 years.

Registration: Best with the contact form on this website or by email to jan.kuhlmann@gmx.de . Late registration on site is possible as long as the maximum number of participants is not exceeded.

Result lists and certificates: These will be provided online on this website. On the certificate the run distance and the achieved time will be documented. As this is not a competition, there will be no award ceremony or age group ranking.

Environmental protection: The course runs through the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park, which is listed by Unesco as a World Heritage Site. The paths may not be left. Garbage may only be disposed of in the designated containers.

Liability: The race director assumes no liability for accidents and injuries of any kind as well as theft or other damages. Participation is at the participant’s own risk. With the registration the participant agrees to this disclaimer. Everyone is liable for himself. With the registration, the participant confirms that all photos and data connected with the event may be used without remuneration for reports on websites etc.

Exclusion: Athletes who violate the rules of hygiene or environmental protection, shorten the course, harm other athletes or passers-by will be disqualified by the organizer. Athletes who are obviously unfit to run a marathon will be taken out of the race.
